Hudson is 17 and just a year away from officially being an adult!!!!!!
Hudson is in the last few weeks of his Junior year at Tahoma High School. He had a very busy year with XC in the Fall, Track this Spring and EIGHT AP classes (3 of which he self studied-English Languor, Macro and Micro Economics) plus he's taken the SAT test twice. He might take it one more time in the Fall but we'll see what his results are from this second test in a week or two. He got 1260 the first time.
XC: Hudson had a good season. He was competitive as a Junior and ran the season with less injuries than last year. He lettered as part of the Varsity. He got to compete at the State competition in Pasco. While he's been to state the previous two years, this was the first year he actually ran. Nana/Papa came over to watch him race which was great.
Track: Hudson had a decent season. He wasn't plagued with as many injuries this year and ran some different races throughout the season to include the 800 and the 4X400 relay. Leagues is coming up and while his mile time isn't fast enough, he'll likely run the 800 and 3200 and maybe the 4X400. Ironically, he curbed his supplement intake which doesn't seem to be having a drastic impact on his performance. This season he didn't run the 3200 very often in favor of the 800 and 1600 so it's interesting that it's the 3200 that he has the most competitive time of all 4 races going into Leagues.
PRs: 800 is 2:04.99. 1600 is 4:41, 3200 is 10:20, and 4X400 split is :55.
We're going to officially celebrate Hudson's birthday next weekend since he shouldn't eat cake, sugar cereal, wings, etc right before Leagues. It's hard to believe he'll be considered an adult in 1 quick year.
Hudson continues to get good overall grades despite his massive course load. He is learning valuable time management skills and seems to be doing a good job balancing his studies, sports and social life.
At this time he hasn't started applying for colleges so I think the plan is to cast a decently wide net and see if/where he gets accepted which will inform his more finite options. M&D are pushing for Western in Bellingham but we'll see where this all nets out.
We did several fun activities over the Winter/Spring:
- Traveling: San Francisco (last Summer), XC Camp (Mt Baker), Schweitzer to ski during mid-Winter break and Scottsdale for Spring Break
- Running: Hudson has run in a variety of cities while traveling San Diego, San Francisco, Scottsdale, Hawaii, Helena in 12 degree temps. Brrrrrr!!!!
This year for his birthday we're going to pad his checking account with $200 so he can spend it on whatever he'd like. Nana got him a running plaque, Gma and Nana Nan sent him checks and Chris sent him an Amazon gift card.
