Hudson is now a big brother and is adjusting really well. He likes to say hi to Beckett and calls him "B". We do see attempts to get our attention and usually in the form of acting out so while we don't feel like he is unfriendly to Beckett it would appear that he is subconsciously jealous and feeling a lack of attention.
Hudson loves to jump off of stools, stairs and pretty much anything he can. He also likes to walk backwards. He is able to sing several songs including "Twinkle Twinkle", "Itsy Bitsy Spider", and the "ABC's". He knows his ABC's, colors, and can count to ten. He is able to identify objects and start counting how many there are. He continues to love cars, trucks, trains, and tractors.
Hudson moved into a big boy bed and seems to love it. He sleeps well all night with his spooka nightlight and fan on.
We are attempting to potty train him and have been successful with several pee-pee's on the potty chair after sitting with him and reading a story. We give him a full nalgene and he eventually does a pee-pee and then gets a reward. At this point he is not able to alert us when he feels a pee-pee coming so we've had accidents in our underwear rather than making it to the potty chair in time.
He has busted out with a few great one-liners of which include:
- "mommy, daddy needs to relax"
- "that's rude!"
- "that's not cool"
- "mommy sweetheart, come"
- "mommy, i'll make you a deal. You get in the box...i'll give you special treat!"
- "that's delicious"
- "holy smokes"
- "that's wierd"
- "duh dah dah dah....party time!"
He is growing out of his 2T clothes and is starting to fit into some of his 3T pants and shirts.
It has been so great spending time with him while on maternity leave as a family. We have gone to children's museum's, the zoo, the library, and seabrook.
Hudson continues to be so much fun and amazes us with his aptitude and humorous personality!
24 months (26 lbs. 33.5" tall)
Hudson has not put on much weight or grown much taller in the last couple of months. Perhaps he's hitting a plateau before a growing spurt? He is very active and likes to run, march, and attempt to jump...we're still working on the jumping.
His vocabulary continues to improve and he amazes us daily with new words and combinations of words to form sentences. He seems very advanced in terms of talking but I'm sure all parents feel that way. It is becoming so much fun now that we can actually have a conversation, albeit short, with him. He understands what we're saying and is able to formulate words to communicate to us how he's feeling. Pretty impressive!
He hasn't really grasped the idea of being a big brother but when we point to mommy's tummy and say "who's in there?" he'll say "baby".
He has been putting his fingers in his mouth lately and sucks on all 4 of them which makes me wonder if he has little molars coming in. It seems to go in phases so we'll keep watching to see if it develops into anything. We aren't pulling him out of Little Smiles afterall as they paired down the # of students and he seems to be doing much better now that there are less children and especially less babies. It will be good for him to have to share the attention he gets w/ his little baby brother.
He went in for his 2 year appt and the doctor said everything looked good. He got his hepatitis shot and doesn't go back for another check-up until he's 3. It's a good thing because mommy and baby #2 will be in/out of doctor appts for the next several months.
He is getting more and more independent which is good & bad. We love to see him becoming a person but sad to see that he doesn't need us as much as he once did. He does have moments where he just wants to be held and i treasure these moments very much as they are becoming few and far between.
He seems to be a happy and well adjusted little boy. He continues to love to play outside, splash in the bath, read books, and play with cars, trucks and trains. His birthday party was a lot of fun!

23 months
Hudson is getting heavier and taller but we don't have exact weight and height. He goes in for his 2 year appointment in a couple of weeks. I had fun ordering lots of fun decorations for his birthday coming up. I can't believe he's almost 2. It seems like yesterday we were celebrating his 1st birthday.
Hudson had his 2nd professional haircut (but first good one) a week ago and it has totally changed his look. He looks much older and it made his face appear much more slender.
He is able to count to 10 (almost) but leaves out a few digits here and there. He knows all of the primary colors as well as white. The other day he burst out with "buses" when seeing two buses parked together. That was the first plural word I've heard him say.
The terrible 2's have definitely emerged and we're going to have to remove him from Little Smiles daycare as he just doesn't like being surrounded by a ton of kids. We've had a kicking incident, a biting incident, and several pushing moments. He is definitely getting more of a mind of his own and has the words "no" and "mine" down pretty well. I've noticed words he has picked up outside of the home as he tells me, "no mommy stop it", and "daddy-turkey".
Gabriel came over to visit and Hudson had a hard time sharing his toys. However, Reese and Hadley showed up a week later and he didn't seem to mind at all. Hmmm....a ladies man already?
He loves taking baths, his blanket, being outside and cars, cars, cars......
He likes cartoons and movies but has a pretty short attention span and is bored after 15-20 mins.

22 months (23-25 lbs; he was 25 lbs last saturday before he got a really bad cold/pneumonia and lost 2 lbs)
We can't believe Hudson is approaching the 2 year mark. WOW time really flies. Hudson is battling his worst cold to date and the doctor thinks he may have pneumonia. We've got him on some pretty heavy antibiotics and an inhaler. His fever seems to have finally broken so we're just waiting for his appetite and energy level to return to normal. He's been sick for over a week now! He has just looked like death. Eyes watering and then yellow goop coming out, no appetite, ear infections in both ears and no energy. He has definitely not been himself the last week. Poor guy! He continues to be so much fun to watch and observe. He is such an even tempered little guy. He doesn't get bothered by much and is generally a happy and content little boy. Over the last couple of weeks he has really gravitated toward daddy as they've been spending a lot of time together while mommy is at work. He continues to bust out with words we've never heard him say. For example a couple weeks ago when Gma & Bompa were here we were putting him to bed and he says, "Bye guys, see ya". He loves to be outside whenever he can and has recently been introduced to the big wheel shopping carts and loves steering the wheel while mommy shops. Hudson enjoyed watching the Winter Olympics in Vancouver last month with us and would point out mommy and daddy's "ski's" and "boots" after watching the skiing competitions. He is so much fun and is definitely developing more of a mind of his own as he approaches the 2 year mark. I think I heard him say "MINE" the other day. Oh brother, here we go...
21 months
Hudson is getting heavier. Both dandm have noticed so i think all the heavy milk and bread are starting to pack on some needed lbs. We are aware that potty training needs to start being a priority as Hudson told me last night as he pointed to his diaper, "mommy, poo-poo". He is starting to be curious about drinking from a big cup and oftentimes throws a fit when we won't let him hold the cup himself. He's getting it but still tends to tip the cup too much and proceed to spill the liquid down the front of his shirt. Gma & Bompa are coming to visit next wkd and the plan is to go to the zoo so that should be exciting! We've made arrangements to travel to San Diego in April (Hudson's last free flight) and will get to show him the world renowned San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld. Hudson continues to grow in his independence and likes to do things himself w/o help. He is a great climber and LOVES to be outside. Like father like son! He is the apple of our eye and we love every minute with him.
20 months (23 lbs. 8 oz. 34" tall)
Hudson has started to put words together and even make mini sentences. He likes to put different adjectives before his favorite word "truck". We've got "big truck", "garbage truck" and "daddy's truck". He continues to say any word back to you that you say to him. We are starting to think about potty training by having him sit on his potty chair while mommy/daddy sit on the big "chair". Beau was doing this with Hudson one day and Hudson busts out with "Daddy goes poo-poo!". Too funny! Over the Holidays in the Methow, he was at Nana H's house visiting her kitty. Tawny went behind a chair and was peaking out at Hudson. Hudson bent over and peared around the side of the chair and said, "I see you!". We had never heard him say that before so it was pretty cute. He continues to be very attached to his "bankee" and loves to look out the window and see the doggies, sheep, and cows! He is extremely attached to his papa and bompa right now and definitely prefers them when in a crowded room with others. Beau took Hudson in for his 18 month check-up (a couple months late) and the doctor said he was in the 20% for weight and we could stand to fatten him up. We're adding heavy cream to his milk and feeding him lots of bread and butter. He is getting bigger all the time and just last night when I tucked him in I noticed how big he looked in his crib. Time does go fast and we're loving every minute with him.
