Hudson is growing up! He turned 5 yesterday and we celebrated by having his first birthday party with friends over. Daddy scored a huge bouncy house from the fire department and true to tradition made Hudson's cake freehand. This year it's all about TRAINS. CARS are OUT and TRAINS are IN. Hudson's cake was Percy with a #5. We invited Oscar, Chase, Tristan, and Natalie. Unfortunately Trey & Jamesson couldn't make it. Hudson had lots of presents many of which were trains!
Hudson is now registered to start PM Kindergarten in September. We did not win the ADK lottery which is a blessing in disguise. We'll jockey our schedules to make it work. The good news is that we'll no longer require childcare after August. We went to Kindergarten Orientation last week and Hudson got to see his classroom, meet his teacher and even go on a school bus ride. He is going to absolutely thrive in such a highly stimulated environment and learn so much.
Hudson went skiing with daddy a couple times this season and surprisingly REALLY liked it. They stayed on the magic carpet area and daddy worked very patiently with Hudson teaching him the basics. He really enjoyed learning and especially appreciated the hot cocoa by the fire pits afterwards.
Hudson also played Spring soccer this year. It's indoors so no muddy games in downpours. He improved so much this season and came out of the goalie position to play aggressively all over. He is no longer scared of the players or the game. What a difference 6 months can make. I'm sure it helps that he knows all the kids from the Fall season. This Fall he will move from the 3/4 group to 5/6 and play with some bigger and potentially more skilled kids. In preparation we registered him for soccer camp in July. It's 2 hours/day for a week.
Hudson is getting much better at reading. Daddy is particularly disciplined in working with him in order to prepare for Kindergarten. Some of our other pre-K goals are: learning our address, upper AND lower case letters, counting to 100+, simple addition/subtraction, days of the week, coin currency, and continued writing skills with both letters AND numbers.
It's hard to believe our little baby will be climbing on the school bus in 4 short months. Mommy & Daddy are taking the day off work the first day of Kindergarten in preparation for this milestone.
Hudson continues to be a sensitive soul. He is gentle and caring. He is determined and boundary driven. He appreciates rules and understanding the "why" behind the "what". He is my cuddler and always up to give or receive a kiss or a hug. He is a sweet and smart little boy and we love him more than words can say. <3 br="">
